बहुत समय पहले की बात है। जंगल में चार मित्र रहते थे। उन चारों का स्वभाव काफी अलग थाए किंतु वे पक्के दोस्त थे और किसी एक की मुश्किल में सभी मिलकर मदद करते थे। वे चार मित्र थे- चूहा, कौआ, हिरण व कछुआ।एक दिन चूहाए कौआ व हिरण पेड़ के नीचे गप्पें मार रहे थे। अचानक चीखने की आवाज सुनाई दी। यह तो उनके मित्र कछुए की आवाज थी। वह शिकारी के जाल में फँस गया था। हिरण ने कहा- ‘अरे! अब हम क्या करेंगे।चूहे ने कहा- ष्चिंता मत करोए मेरे पास एक योजना है।ष् सारे दोस्तों ने मिल कर सब तय कर लिया। हिरण शिकारी के रास्ते की ओर भागा और उसके देखते ही देखते यूँ गिर गया मानो मर चुका हो। इसी दौरान कौआ वहाँ पहुँचा और हिरण का माँस नोंचने का दिखावा करने लगा
