In the book of genesis Adam and Eve enjoyed original nakedness. This means they were able to see each other for their souls and as a person, not just for their body and through the lens of lust. This means they did not need modesty because they were only capable of pure love. However, after Eve ate the fruit from the forbidden tree the concept of “nakedness” in a negative light arose. They saw the need for clothes and the need to cover themselves out of shame. Now, we still love this shame and new definition of nakedness. Consequently, we need to utilize modesty as a weapon to keep ourselves safe from any sin that could possibly stem from this. It is our shield for keeping our body’s value.
